The oil paintings by Kathleen E. Bailey are often minimalistic in composition leaning toward striations of landscapes and seascapes. Using two contemporary palettes, Bailey shares her visual imagery in both vivid tropical colors or muted postmodern hues. She also integrates wax into pigments and coats the surface of board to reveal lines and textures of a palette knife. More info --> www.greatergoodgallery.com/kathleen-e-bailey.html

Previous Exhibits
Jon Derby exhibits works of art at MJ's Raw Bar on Middle Street for the months of March and April 2014. The photographer hires models to capture portraits. Derby then manipulates the images in photoshop to highlight the structure of shadows and form into two-dimensional contours of line. Often with minimalism in choices of hues, there are exceptions where solid primary and secondary colors boldly define the portraiture. See more of Derby's work at Greater Good Gallery on 228 Craven Street.

Located in the heart of beautiful historic New Bern, see the art installation by Scott Coleman at MJ's Raw Bar. The seven-paneled canvas is a monumental movement in acrylic paint. Coleman says, "The acrylic painting sequence is an expression of the spiritual journal of life, a zen symphony in blue. This is my wave." Titled, "Surf's Up," the work of art is dedicated to Brian Wilson, the original beach boy.

"In Memory of Broad Street Social Club", Artwork by Chris Buttitta. Using representations of contemporary pop and music culture, Buttitta defines the portraits in stark contrast of negative/positive space. The intimate look of each face will trigger memories of songs or movies past. The viewers of the paintings will spin the wheels of their mind in an attempt to remember the name of each character.
