After being in the coffee bar business for over 18 years in Columbia, Maryland, Mike decided it was time for a change. To celebrate his heritage, Mike offers New Bern this unique Maryland treat showcasing his grandmother's recipes in MJ's signature crabcakes.
MJ's offers a wide selection of seafood dishes all prepared with a touch of that tasty Maryland spice. Our signature crabcakes are grandma's recipe and they are Maryland style all the way. But MJ's is not just a seafood restaurant, we offer, by far, the BEST burger in town, great steaks, sandwiches and salads and wonderful fresh desserts everyday. And if you're in the mood for some oysters, clams, crawfish, steamed shrimp or dungeness crabs we've got them, steamed or raw.... whatever your lookin' for!
It's all in the family! Hannah is Mike's incredible daughter who leads the team alongside her dad!
Hannah has a huge heart, is incredibly ambitious and an animal lover that loves the water, sunshine and outdoors!
One of her favorite things is taking her doggies downtown on a walk during her off-time.
Speaking of animals, she has five! Three dogs and two cats. Myles, Marley and Mac are the three pups & Callie and Sativa are her cats. They're her best friends in the whole world.
Her favorite MJ's dish is the Baltimore Steamer by far! It is everything she enjoys most in the seafood family. It's one of the restaurant's raw bar platters that comes with 1/2 lb peel & eat shrimp with kielbasa & potatoes, along with Snow or Dungeness crab topped off with Old Bay Seasoning on everything!
Chef Mark has been with MJ's for over seven years! He is a lot of the creativity behind the dishes & works with Mike on all things food.
He might seem quiet as you watch him throughout the back of the house, but he has quite the story! Starting in the hospitality industry for over 20 years, he has done everything from casual to fine dining and has perfected our menu with his knowledge that is truly endless.
Chef's favorite MJ's dish are the Crab Cakes & Shrimp & Grits - he even said he'd put the Crab Cakes up against ANY Crab Cake in the world!!
Aside from his talent at MJ's, he has been married to his incredible wife Venas for 33 years and loves living in New Bern. He considers himself a homebody that likes to simply relax!
Next time you're in the restaurant and see him, be sure to say hello (but don't even try to ask him for his recipes - he's sworn to secrecy!)
